During the course of the year 1st Collingtree and Milton Malsor have been very busy with lots of different things associated with the SNAPP project 1 & 4 As a group we have pledged to reduce the amount of single use plastics that we use and to reduce the number of plastics going to landfill. To reduce the number of plastics going to landfill we are taking part in the terracyle recycling scheme primarily for crisp packets however we have also accepted other items listed (see leaflet attached) however rather than signing up ourselves we are supporting a local organisation MK charity recycling who donates the proceeds from the recycling to two worthy causes - Willen Hospice MK and MK Cat rescue I have certainly been kept busy with visits to the drop off points This year we have also swapped all of our woggles to leather rather than plastic. On attendance at District events we have taken our own re usable cups rather than use the disposable plastic ones and as a result the District Beavers have changed the products they use so that cups can be re used at a number of events. 2 - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all completed various activities on colony, pack and troop evenings Beavers enjoyed a talk from the Milton Keynes Waste recycling centre learning all about the things that can and can't be recycled. Following this Beavers completed the WWF Green ambassadors - the 3 R's and How long does it last activities. We then repurposed our old plastic woggles making "woggle buddies". As part of our pledge the Beavers set to work creating posters to advertise our campaign and also to encourage parents to help us with our pledge we created keyrings (shrunken crisp packets, recycled keyrings donated by a local company who have ceased trading) and a reminder to parents to Reduce, Re-Use and Recycle Cubs and Scouts also completed the WWF Green Ambassadors - the 3R's and How long does it last activities, the Scouts were somewhat surprised at how long items take to break down following this the Scouts then took the Re purpose challenge where they were given a number of recyclable materials and they had to come up with a way in which the item could be used again - some very creative ideas! 3 - All 3 sections are involved with the local parish council and have taken part in litter picks around Milton Malsor this is to be a regular commitment, some of our members have since gone off and taken part in litter picks in their own local area and have encouraged family members to do the same after seeing what was collected in Milton Malsor in just a few hours 5 - Throughout the year we have advertised our campaigns via our Group Facebook and Twitter pages.
Well done collingtree and Milton Malsor content media

the 17th Kettering (St Andrews) Beaver Group have achieved the following: 1) Take part in at least one group, sectional or personal challenge: We have changed our woggles from plastic to leather We have (as a section) stopped using single use bottles and use reusable cups/bottles on all our activities indoors and outdoors. 2) Take part in the “Find out more” activity. We were lucky enough to have a lady from Kettering Borough Council come to our meeting and explain all about recycling and rubbish and what we can do, this included bringing in our own rubbish and recycling to understand it further. 3) Clear up We took part in a group litter pick at the Rockingham Road Pleasure Park 4) One Campaign We recycle ink cartridges and crisp packets 5) Tell someone about it We have told our parents all about it! And we love to update our Facebook page with everything we have achieved.

We have been very busy with lots of different things associated with the project. We have had a visit from a local recycling authority who explained all about different recycling and played a couple of games. We have we have made two plant pots - one just from newspaper and the other from newspaper and papier-mâché with homemade glue from flour and water. We have talked about and tried some fair trade products. We have made water filters from plastic bottles and sand/stones. Also we have made a zoo out of recyclables without any tape or glue so that they can be recycled again.

During the autumn term made turtles from pop bottles and looked at how pollution is affecting the creatures in the oceans, they created their own mind map and 2 collages of endangered animals identifying those that are affected by pollution and those from hunting climate change etc. They have collected crisp packets which can be recycled and and our pledge is changing from plastic to leather woggles! They did a challenge over October half term where they were given a sheet and had to identify as much plastic as possible which they use every day. One came up with toilet seat in the caravan must have been on holiday at the time!!! We still have on going activities to keep them aware, continuing to collect crisp packets this is for charity and are going to make ecobricks!!! We also have a visit to our local pocket park to collect rubbish and do some weeding though this is a biannual event. Another 24 complete

The events we have done, and put onto Facebook 1) All sections did litter picks around our hut and local area. 2) We have stopped single use plastics at the Scout Hut . 3) At all camps Non-Single use bottles must be used, we have no plastic cups . This had the added advantage that there was less washing up of cups and the children tended to drink water not juice. 4) We swapped all our woggles from plastic to leather. The old woggles and the last plastic straws were used to make hanging decorations for the sensory garden at Wren Spinney SEND school. These were loved by the children and were a good way to recycle the woggles. 5) The group have collected empty pump action soap bottles. these are being washed and have been sent to Bansang Hospital in the Gambia. I will be going out in January and the bottles will be filled for use as hand wash dispensers on every ward as part of their Infection Control Strategy. 6) we have introduced recycling bags at the Scout Hut to encourage recycling. 90 completitions

The Cubs identified what plastics are used at home, school and at Cubs. They discussed how they could use less: At home: - Persuade Dad to use an electric razor not plastic disposable - Instead of cotton wool could use flannels - Instead of liquid soap could use bars of soap - Think about what they could put sandwiches in to reuse that item and not use cling film At School: - To maybe use pencils or crayons instead of pens with plastic - Instead of pencil cases made of plastic they decided they want to try and sew one with material. * - They already use their own drinks bottle At Cubs: - To bring their own refillable water bottles - Have leather woggles instead of plastic - Plastic sweet wrappers of bright colours they can use for Christmas decorations 3 - Take part in a clear up / environmental activity - The Cubs decided it was not good to have litter in the field beside the Scout Hut. Over a period of 4 months they have been out litter picking, then identified what litter could go to be recycled in what way, ie kerb collection by council or via TerraCycle. (The Leaders did a "safety sweep” / risk assessment before each litter picking session) They also identified there was no bin in the field for the public to use. The request via their leaders was agreed by the owners of the field but sadly denied by our Scout Group Exec Committee due to the risk of dog poo bags being put in same bin and possibility of items from occasional drug usage. Another thing the Cubs identified was that there was no blue recycling bin at the Scout Hut, so asked their leader for one and are now using it. 4 - Take part in at least one Campaign about the issues - Recycling at the Scout Hut - Litter picking - Bringing in Crisp packets, coffee pods, plastic bags and wrappers for Terracycle to recycle as these cannot be taken by the kerbside council service To recycle old pens by collecting and taking them to a Terracycle collection point. Posters have been made and bags placed for collection of this for Terracycle * We will be making pencil cases out of material at the start of next term. 5 - Tell someone all about it: The Cubs have made posters / signs for other sections using the hut and also parents to see about recycling and have put bags out to collect things to go to TerraCycle.. They told the town Mayor about their litter picking and the town council now provide grippers, bags and bag hoops. Before International Earth Hour they will be writing / sending pictures about what they have been doing to the local paper and town council magazine so other people can see and learn what they can do. . 30 completed

1st Hardingstone Cubs having been working very hard on their SNAPP project this term. In our Pack Forum we made our SNAPP pledge to recycle hard plastic bottle lids that cannot be recycled in the same way as the rest of the bottle. We did some research and found a company in Portsmouth that recycles the bottle lids and turns them into children's outdoor play equipment. The money raised through this process is then donated to a charity. So our bottle lid project began ... We voted for any money raised by our project to be donated to Cancer Research. The Cubs then got to work and created some fantastic posters, which they took home and put up in parents work places and other local spots, telling everyone about our project. We also created some leaflets which the Cubs distributed to residents in Hardingstone village. We placed a bucket outside our Scout Hut for local residents to drop any bottle lids into. We had a huge response to our project and with the support from Hardingstone Scout Group, parents, work colleagues and local residents, we collected in an AMAZING amount of bottle lids! All of the bottle lids will be heading down to Portsmouth next week with Hathi and Chil and we look forward to finding out how much money we have raised for Cancer Research. For our pledge, the 1st Rothwell Cubs made a pledge to reduce the use of single use plastic bottles or at least reuse them. Almost every parent got on board and since we started this all of the Cubs have been refilling bottles with juice or just water from the tap. We looked in to the issues with plastic and heard stories about whales and dolphins being found dead with plastic in their stomachs and we also looked at ocean currents and where plastic washes up on beaches. We performed a community litter pick and contacted Rothwell Town Council, who then informed us that they have a yearly community litter pick that we can join in with. Finally to tell the world, we made a facebook post on our group that we made public and asked parents to share it, asking people to do one thing to reduce their use of single use plastics.
